Comparison of Open vs Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy in patients of Cholelithiasis having Previous Abdominal Surgeries

Background: Most of the surgeons in our setups perform open cholecystectomy (OC) patients cholelithiasis having previous abdominal surgery. This is era laparoscopic and robotic surgery (LC) should be preferred treatment for these as well. Aim: To observe effect surgeries on cholecystectomy. Study design: Randomized, controlled multicenter experimental study. Place duration study: Department Surgery, Central Park Teaching Hospital, Lahore, Noor Kot Radha Kishan Bilquees Kasur from 1st January 2020 to 31st December 2021. Methodology: Fifty eight were allocated into 2 groups (29 each group) not considering age sex. Both types analyzed basis operating time, post-operative pain (VAS) complications. Complications noted i.e. wound infection, bile leakage cystic duct/CBD injury, gut injury per operative bleeding). Type was also noted. Data conversion recorded. Results: Mean group A 45.99±13.42 years while mean B 41.87±14.65 p-value 0.105. 75.2% female 82.1% (p-value 0.185). Operative time 45.51±8.32 minutes 70.33±13.40 0.001). VAS score 7.34±1.80 it 5.24±1.93 4 (13.79%) developed infection 1 patient (3.45%) 0.005). Bile seen any both groups. Peroperative bleeding (more than 50ml) (6.90%) 8 (27.59%) 0.001. 24 cases mesh hernioplasty (41.38%), 16 herniorrhaphy (27.59%), 10 laparotomies peritonitis/intestinal obstruction (17.24%) gynecological problems (13.79%).
